Building A Heat Pipe

Through research, the group discovered many links on how to build heat pipes. This video was helpful as well for the building of the heat pipe.

Useful tools in the building of our heat pipe will be, copper and water. These pictures below show our first heat pipe build.

       1. Copper pipe 1/2 in. in diameter
           Copper mesh
           Copper Caps
           Water

             * For one of the caps we used a screw cap for a better fit. To get the grooves in the screw cap we            
                used a machine to do so. The video below shows how we made the cap.

             
      2. Process:
            a) Cut the copper pipe to smaller size
            b) Roll the mesh and put inside the copper pipe, so it lines the inside of the pipe

            c) Solder the first cap on
            c) Add the working fluid. In this case, water 1/3 of the way in the pipe.
            d) Solder the second cap on while first letting a tiny bit of water to vaporize before capping.

       3. End result
             The end result is the photo below.
